Do You Need a Skip for Your Building Project

If you are constructing a building, you know that safety is a priority. Therefore, you need to make sure that you have access to the right-sized skip to clean up any unsafe debris. However, you also need to know what materials can and cannot go into a skip as well.

Materials That Are Not Permitted

Some of the materials that cannot be disposed of in a skip with other building waste include the following:

  • Asbestos
  • Paint
  • Plasterboard
  • Fridges
  • Freezer
  • WEEE Waste, or Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment
  • Gas bottles
  • Electrical items that use a plug
  • Tyres

If you need to dispose of plasterboard, purchase plasterboard waste bags. The bags can be collected along with the skip or at a time that suits. Besides purchasing the bags, you may also consider hiring a skip solely for the plasterboard.

Checking for Asbestos

You can request that the company that offers skip hire services in Weymouth takes a sample of waste that you suspect contains asbestos. The company will send the sample to a lab for analysis. It usually takes two days to receive the results. If asbestos is found, you can arrange for the delivery of asbestos skips.

Make sure when you order a skip that you do not overload it. It is better to order the right-sized skip as overloading can be hazardous. Whilst you do not want to order a skip that is too big, you do not want to order one that is too small either. In either case, you will end up spending more than needed.
